This is the southeast corner of W Mathis and University on the campus of ENMU in Roswell, NM. The big blue building in the background is Dean Baldwin Aircraft Painting. I believe that the young men and women marching in the street are members of the ROTC program at ENMU. To the right of the marching assembly is a disc or frisbee golf course that hardly ever gets used. So, are you bored with this rant? The things I just mentioned on this college campus are objects that you CAN SEE. If you look near the tree you will notice a stop sign at this intersection which is partially blocked by the tree close to the intersection , but completely blocked from view farther back. Sometimes chess is more about psychology than one's innate talent or ability despite what Bobby Fischer said ( I don't believe in psychology, I believe in good moves). Also the former New Mexican GM Jesse Kraai, in his characteristic honesty exuding style, once commented in Desert Knight: It’s a painful process to analyze your games. It’s like a psychoanalysis session with yourself” This following blitz game played at ICC is an excellent example of psychology superseding logic. However, more circumspect would be b4 attacking the discovering laufer! (pardon the crass, uncivilized mixture of German and English[...]
Picking on a small excerpt from any author's work is easy to do. Liping Ma wrote an excellent book titled Knowing and Teaching Elementary Mathematics where she compares mathematical understanding among U.S. and Chinese elementary school teachers as it relates to classroom teaching practices. Liping became an elementary school teacher as a consequence of the cultural revolution. She ended up in a mathematics doctoral program at Stanford University in the United States. She did postdoctoral work at Berkeley and her dissertation constitute the substance of her magnum opus Knowing and Teaching Elementary Mathematics. I interpret her work as a very just criticism of teachers who only have a superficial knowledge of procedures and rules. A concrete example of only having superficial knowledge of a procedure would be the[...]
