I learned a few things about the Swiss psychologist Hermann Rorschach today. Most of us have taken or heard about the inkblot test. I remember my sister looking at the clouds and seeing kitchen utensils or the head of her cat, etc. where I would look at same cloud and tell sis it looked like, well, a cloud.
I believe we all see what we want to see when we look at an amorphous figure, which is why the inkblot test is so revealing from a psychological point of view. Keith Bell cleverly linked the topical controversy surrounding the confederate flag with the inkblot test in his RDR cartoon today. The three captions were respectively “I see southern pride”, “I see racism”, and lasciviously “I see Daisy Dukes”(get that apostrophe in there after the e man so we will know you mean her short shorts :)). The last caption alone conjures up images of sexy legs and iconic tight shorts, and I wish more people associated the flag with The Dukes of Hazard rather than with the murderous actions of lethal injection candidate Dylann Roof.
Comon!, wouldn’t you 40ish males much rather try to count all the cold showers you had to take after fixating on Catherine Bach’s well sculpted figure, than associate an important historical symbol with a homicidal malcontent? AND, don’t you guys even try to tell me you remember any of the plot lines of Dukes of Hazard!
