Socialite Versus Socialist

It is just too easy to make fun of Donald Trump. His permanently pursed lips, insatiable need for attention, his great wall of China idea to “protect” us from Mexico, are among the many attributes of a man who is really more of an entertainer than a politician. Obama does blur the distinction between these two professions, now that I think of it, with his renditions of Al Green and Amazing Grace.

Keith has plenty of targets in Roswell for his eagerly awaited RDR caricatures, but it was good to see him “voice his opinion” on a couple of democratic presidential candidates.  His labeling of The Donald as a Socialite is incontestably accurate.

Bell used the standard literal versus metaphorical literary device when he used the phrase Build a Wall. He claims Bernie Sanders wants build a wall between Americans and their money. Now, I know hyperbole is present in many cartoonist’s efforts. However, I believe Sanders, running as a socialist, is more interested in getting some of the super rich elite to give up some of their loot for deposit into social programs for the needy where the term needy must be carefully defined.

I really am not sure where I come up on this issue. The government already can change the tax structure to go after whichever economic class they want. I know that, ideologically, socialism is halfway between Capitalism and Communism. Communism systemically failed many years ago so we don’t want to get to close to that, but capitalism has its share of problems like for profit medicine and law where the enormous debt incurred to become a doctor or a lawyer can lower the competency levels/ethics of both professions.

Sanders hangs his hat on the growing gap between the very rich and everyone else(notice this is different from the poor). He is aiming for a “progressive economic agenda” that creates jobs, raises wages, protects the environment and provides health care for everybody. He is taking on the astronomical economic and political power of the billionaire class, which probably needs to done by at least one candidate.

We have to be very concerned about partial government ownership of production and distribution of goods which is how socialism is defined.

Finally, Bell’s depiction of the Trumpster’s protruding, petulant, impertinent lips should receive national attention. Enjoy Keith while you can. He could get snapped up by some mega media conglomerate in the blink of an eye!
