How often is somebody given a free diamond ring from a jeweler? Michelle Diamond-Reece of Mark Diamond’s Jewelers announced to all Albuquerque KOAT viewers that a free diamond ring was being given to the victim of a mugging nearby. Incidentally, the woman was held up because she was donning multiple diamond pieces.
Michelle must have done a calculation on the amount of free advertising her munificent act would produce. She, of course, told the TV reporter that her only reason for giving away an expensive diamond ring was to help the mugging victim overcome the trauma and devastation of being pistol whipped.
Who can blame her for using the television station to convert the outcome of a crime into bottom line profit for her jewelry store? However, I thought that all forms of TV advertising required a payment from those seeking to increase the public awareness of the products they peddle or the services they provide.
Her hyphenated name suggests she is the precious stone proprietor’s sister or, more unlikely, was previously married to him. I wonder how many people named Diamond actually end up selling them?
