Unstoppable Passed d pawn

In the following game played at ICC, a number of GM commentators including Yermolinsky,Christiansen, Fedorwicz, and Benjamin declared that black was winning after Kd2 intending to sneak in behind white’s weak queen-side pawns and ingest them one by one.

This would lead to the queening of the Black a-pawn and White would have to tip over his king. However, white can exploit his material advantage by the spectacular Nxd5. After cxd5, White plays c4 creating an unstoppable passed c or d pawn which is winning due to Black’s in arrears King.

BTW, isn’t it pathetic how some ICC chess players will always be busy for chatting or messaging and yet talk all kinds of smack and trash after you just kicked their ass! I guess the only way they can feel in control is to berate somebody who just beat them, but not allow a reply. So sad

  1. Know this is a little off topic, but I was in NYC a couple of summers ago and had the pleasure of playing against some of the strongest players at the Marshall Chess Club. Took the subway over almost daily from Brooklyn and met some of the nicest people and friendly chess players one could expect!! My experience dispelled all myths about the stereotypical rude New Yorker. One the best times of my life!!
