A Deterrent to Paying Property Taxes with Credit Cards

Recently learned that Chaves County Treasurer, New Mexico in the United States charges the credit card equivalent of 12% APR for delinquent property taxes.

You can see on the pay stub below, interest is 1% per month on delinquent taxes. Their tax district also is not credit card friendly charging  2.95 % user fee for all payments of property tax via credit cards. So if you owed $2000 to city, then it would cost you an extra $29.95 to process the transaction via the eagleweb.co third party service provider.

So much for using cash back credit cards when paying taxes in Roswell which is the County seat. I do empathize somewhat with this taxing entity as they probably do not conduct  high volume transactions compared to private sector retailers like Walmart or Target.
