Our monthly natural gas bill from New Mexico Gas Company costs us essentially nothing. The gas we consumed in August cost us only $1.13 and the cost of 4 days worth of natural gas in September was an un-affordable 16 cents! We take two showers a day and have a gas stove that we use 2 or three times per week.
We pay $11.50 per month for access fee whether we use any gas or not. The bill that you see issued by the New Mexico Gas Company also has Surcharge, Distribution, Transmission costs along with a Gas Energy Efficiency Fee, a Pipeline Safety Fee, a Franchise Fee, and Gross Receipts Tax for a bill that totals $14.79 !! Remember the cost of the actual natural gas used this month was ONLY $1.29.
Our tankless, on demand hot water heater has a lot to do with keeping our gas bill so unbelievably low.
Michael R. Peevey writes lucidly about Liquefied Natural Gas discussing its cleanliness and it friendliness to the environment. He does an excellent job of explaining the significance of the Wobbe index as it relates to natural gas consumption. Don’t believe some of the things the Los Angeles Times said about Peevey. They were misinformed or misinforming for whatever reasons. Peevey is an expert in his field and set the record straight in one of his letters to them.
