Valsartan as a generic substitute for Diovan
Valsartan as a generic substitute for Diovan

For the last year or so Medco has been shipping me 90 tablets of Diovan for $50. This beats the days of waiting in those horribly slow lines at Walgreen’s for only 30 pills at a higher price. Medco has a first rate telephone based system that makes getting the drugs you need a piece of cake. The BP medication was shipped quickly and conveniently from Willingboro, New Jersey and ,again, beats the hell out of waiting in the Walgreen queue for 30 minutes.

The Diovan has been a very effective blood pressure/hypertension treatment. I was a bit miffed that Medco recently mailed me 90 tablets of Valsartan/HCTZ 80/12.5 as a generic substitute for Diovan HCT. Sure the Valsartan was only $12, but I would rather stick with something that is known to work, even if it is slightly more expensive, that switch to a new hypertension medicine. This whole thing goes to show you how much the insurance companies dictate the quality of your health care! As long as the health care in the United States is market driven, one will never be sure if they are getting the best medical treatment.
