We purchased the cookbook you see in the picture at an estate sale in Roswell,NM. It is titled La Methode and was written by Jacques Pepin who described his work as an illustrated guide to the fundamental techniques of cooking.
We found the sales invoice issued by Bayliwix in Houston,TX July 13, 1985! They had locations on Beechnut, West Gray, and South Voss in those days almost 30 years ago. One would not question the authenticity of the hand written sales invoice pricing the Pepin magnum opus at 53 dollars. We bought this well preserved hardback for the negligible price of fifty cents at an estate sale in northeast Roswell.
And Yes, my wife has already prepared multiple delectable meals and some delicious chocolate chip cookies based on the expert guidance of Chef Pepin. There is no doubt that books written in the 80s were generally of a much higher quality due to the much longer publishing cycle than much of the drivel that makes it to the bookshelves these days. We are thrilled to be in possession of such a useful well written tome.
If you miss the good old days where physical books were the norm, read the topic What happened to our Reading Culture at Nairaland Forum. Also wouldn’t Chef Pepin be amazed at the proliferation of all the food network programs and master chef competitions that flood our TV networks these days!
