What is a BOLO List?

Some IRS documents released last week have complicated matters with respect to the perceived politicization of the Internal Revenue Service. They show that terms such as progressive, blue , medical marijuana, and same sex marriage are some of the words or phrases that have been compiled and placed on what has become a very controversial list.

BOLO or Be On the LOokout list is used to help the IRS determine which groups may get additional screening. The outcome of the screening will determine whether a group/business will have a tax-exempt status.

The implication is that if your ideology, views, and beliefs do not sync up with those in power, then it will cost you in tax dollars.
This is, in effect, much like a levy or tax break for those who disagree or agree with the current administration.
