Kevin Baird: La Crosse Tribune

Writing Letter to The Editor

Declining morality, as exhibited by Educational Assistant Timothy Schilling of Holmen High School, was one of many concerns expressed by Kevin Baird in his letter to the editor regarding our vanishing moral compass in the USA. For more on the felony assault charges filed against the child molestor read the fine reportage of Anne Jungen.

Baird despite his good intentions, traps himself with language like the common good, common decency, and common sense. Baird is a pollyanna who believes in the phrase United States which is impossible to achieve in practice.

We have Republicans at the national and state levels(Wisconsin gave its electoral votes to Trump…Live with your decision to elect our liberator from liberal nonsense!) who are trying to strip environmental safeguards seemingly on a daily basis. We have a special Senate election taking place in Alabama soon where the statement has been made, “We need to elect a Republican here no matter what.”(hypocritical statement. Baird always votes democrat)

I wonder where our sense of compassion(You mean feeding lazy people who don’t feel like working for a living), sense of common decency, and just plain common sense has gone with these leaders.

The principle that we are one united people who look out for each other for the common good(Read what Ayn Rand has to say about the ethereal common good) seems to be replaced now with an us/them(Baird means us versus them) approach; where the desires of the few outweigh the needs of the many for those who make important decisions that affect all of us. How terribly sad.

This is not the America we should be turning into. Next year will have its challenges. I wonder what direction these leaders will point us toward – working together or pulling apart?

  1. Connected to the loss of our moral compass is young women, who cannot support themselves on our minimum wage, turning to prositution.

An example is prostitution charges filed against Brittany Hendricks,
Samantha Daily, 23, of Stoddard and Olivia Mueller, 27, of La Crosse — are pending. Sashae Silas, 25, was fined $379.

These women also were issued citations for not having escort licenses as required by city ordinance. Does this mean prostitution is legal in parts of Wisconsin. It should be if it is not. What is wrong with women who enjoy sex to profit from it? It beats working at Taco Bell or Wendys! You never know when a Richard Gere Pretty Woman rescue will take place!!
