Middle School Girls Gone Wild

Below is a snippet from an article titled Middle School Girls Gone Wild written by Lawrence Downes of the New York Times. They writhe and strut, shake their bottoms, splay their legs, thrust their chests out and in and out again. Some straddle empty chairs, like lap dancers without laps. They don’t smile much. Their faces are locked from grim exertion, from all that leaping up and lying down without poles to hold onto. “Don’t stop don’t stop,” sings Janet Jackson, all whispery. “Jerk it like you’re making it choke. …Ohh. I’m so stimulated. Feel so X-rated.” …………………. Sounds like a raunchy burlesque joint in Las Vegas or striptease scene at the Men’s Club in Houston, Texas.   Right?…….Wrong, this was a description of a Long Island MIDDLE SCHOOL talent show! So rather  than chat with other parents about how well the middle school performers sing or play the piano, the discussion might shift to wondering if simulated intercourse is an appropriate dance style for the middle school gym OR even how well their young bodies will fit into skin tight, spandex which will make every male watching their volley ball match want to peel their spandex shorts off their exhibitionist bodies. Let’s face it. Why would young women want to wear such sexually provocative attire unless they were looking to hook up after the game? Getting indignant about whether it is appropriate for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade girls to carry on like strippers is way too easy to get too worked up about. Dancing is definitely a mating ritual and kiddos today are just getting started earlier which makes the problem of parenting that much more stressful and  difficult. Anybody who can rear a child these days given the financial strains and the state of the economy is my hero.
