The Lost Weekend

I miss the simple past where movies had straightforward plots with social value and no unnecessary drama like some of the crap that is produced nowadays.

An example is the film The Lost Weekend with Ray Milland and Jane Wyman where the opening scene had a bottle of whiskey hanging out of a Manhattan apartment window.

The alcoholic writer protagonist Don Birman steals the housekeepers wages as she unwittingly divulges its location through a locked front door, while being there to collect her own pay!

Don’s brother Wick recognizes he is an inveterate hopeless alcoholic who will hide a bottle anywhere to sustain his life sapping habit. Don drinks in the morning an obvious indication of alcoholism.
