Are you really fighting over that?

Out and AboutThe caption for the picture is misleading since all you see is the man loading the back of the SUV with family luggage. We heard some noise in the hotel parking lot below our fourth story room. You will notice the boots laying on the fire lane boundary. The husband’s wife was trying to place the boots in the back of the SUV when he quickly grabbed her arms apparently requesting they be loaded another way.

She responded by throwing them down on the pavement and stomping off in front of their children who quickly followed Mom. I am sure there was some history prior to this event that precipitated this spat over the relatively trivial decision of how to pack a pair of cowboy boots. The man was unaffected and proceeded to put a skateboard in the trunk of the vehicle. The wife was really pissed off and the husband, prudently, chose not to respond to her outburst which I think agitated her further.

Alisa Bowman does a great job of describing why couples fight over stupid stuff. Reading her insightful work helps me to avoid silly disputes and arguments with my loving and irreplaceable wife. She humorously describes the Bathroom Counter War which any married couple can relate to. Ironically, it was the husband that wanted a clutter free counter rather than the wife. Other way around in my marriage where I can never find anything which is based on a woman’s natural instincts to conceal and store in a safe place. This must be related to the traditional view of the woman being in charge of the nest.

  1. More interested in your mention of Alisa Bowman who wrote Project: Happily Ever After. She also writes about how to feel sexy well into middle age which is hard to do for working woman. Alisa sort of saved me from that middle age crisis and menopause depression that can devastate if not tended to.

    1. An optum commercial spoke of managing untreated depression. Some depressions are best left untreated without making the pharmaceuticals richer. Sylvia Plath would not have stuck her head in an oven had she not been institutionalized.
