The above photo is a close up of a well coached and disciplined basketball team from Snyder, Texas. Gil Williams, Devonta Walker, Ronnel Jordan, Tiremone Williams, Justin Roberson, Joseph Gray, and Marqous Barnes are the nucleus of a very hard working team who respect their soft spoken head coach with a very high basketball IQ.

Coach Larren Silver appears to be held in high regard by his players managing to convey his basketball philosophy without raising his voice and rarely losing his cool with the referees . There were quite a few block/charge calls against his team and he never lost his composure coaching his tenacious group of scholar athletes to a gritty road victory.

Silver has coached in Midland and grew up in Waco, Texas. His laid back and calm way of communicating with his staff and team is a model to study for any aspiring coach, not just basketball. A friend took a class from him at McLennan Community College and really enjoyed the manner in which he delivered the course content. A great coach and educator bundled into one human being!

His calm demeanor is in stark contrast to some of the coaches we have seen from Midland and Odessa, TX.

  1. Looks like a NMMI Bronco Basketball game at Cahoon Armory(a friend is employed at Powell Tire and Supply in Roswell which advertises at Cahoon Armory) where a disinterested corps of cadets was in mandatory attendance. A good player from Senegal Africa named Serigne Mboup is the only hard working player on team. I think he is playing for Austin Peay now.
