I was not aware that some gas stations were required to provide vehicle refueling services for car drivers with disabilities until we stopped at the Shell travel center in Tularosa,NM. If you are handicapped, with a legal state issued plate or placard, you may avail of having your vehicle filled up with gasoline at self-service prices. The sign you see did not indicate if your windows would be washed or your tires filled with air if necessary.
Honking twice will summon an attendant to come out and refuel your vehicle provided there is more than one on that shift. So, the message from gas stations who have to be compliant with the motorist’s disabilities act or laws is be there during daylight hours when it is more probable that more than one clerk will be there to assist you.
We had the same problem at this gas station as we have had at many. After our car was tipped off with a full tank of gasoline, we got a message indicating we needed to pick up receipt inside. This should not be legal as it is an overt attempt to force you into their establishment hoping you will purchase refreshments or whatever.
