A few months ago we visited Roswell,NM to see our aging but healthy parents. We were headed south on Union near a golf course when we noticed the police had blocked traffic due to a white pick up truck that was literally upside down in roadside ditch next to the fence that borders the new Sorrento Subdivision.
We were an hour early, so rather than turn around we decided to wait as it appeared the RPD was about reopen traffic. We got out and overheard bits and pieces of the attending officer’s conversations. My wife heard the word texting mentioned several times and we concluded that the wreck must have been caused by somebody texting while trying to navigate a fairly abrupt curve on Union near the subdivision. One of the officers quite unprofessionally mentioned that a girl, in the overturned vehicle seen in the picture below, was crying “I want my Mommy”. My wife graduated from Goddard High School and said there were a number of wrecks at that same curve by drunk high school kids and that the city should do something about the sharpness of the curve.
We also noticed some kids peering out of the window of a two story French Brothers home(13 Positano Loop) just on the other side of the fence that separates the subdivision from the road. They appeared to be videoing the scene of the wreck. Also all that you can see in the picture is the wheels and the bottom side of overturned truck over the fence.
I will say that people who text while driving have a lot of growing up to do as their very inconsiderate and irresponsible action can lead to considerable money loss, property damage, and even death. I hope it does not take a serious wreck for them to learn their lesson!
