If one sees a police car, ambulance or fire truck blocking a traffic intersection, one does not generally question its legitimacy. We were a little surprised to see a van owned by VistaScapes blocking the east side of the intersection at Kentucky and West fourth street in Roswell New Mexico.
We had been stuck there a few extra days due to the record setting Blizzard named Goliath and on our way to the highly recommended Martin’s Capitol Cafe. We detoured around the van past the public library and snaked our way over to some delicious Mexican food and a hospitable wait staff!
I do have a question about what is required in a small town for a private company to block a thoroughfare. The Vista Scape van had turned on some flashing lights to signify it was going to be there awhile, perhaps, only clearing snow for their customer.
In larger towns, you would have to pay a fee and provide detour signage. I did not see any attempt by this landscaping business to do this. This may sound like a little too much sniveling, but this time of year Roswell has many visitors who do not know the layout of the town.
We had no problem reaching our destination to the land of tasty and inexpensive Mexican Food, but just saying.
