We never really looked forward to driving through Roswell,NM on US285 til about 3 years ago when the Thai restaurant Lemon Grass on South Main opened. Nothing really caught our fancy and we would just drive through town and wait til Albuquerque and the delectable steaks of Texas Land and Cattle Company.
We stopped off recently at Lemon Grass and could help but notice a huge pickup self advertising as Elkhorn Construction an employee owned company from Wyoming. My experiences in business have invariably found employee owned enterprises to be much more efficient and generally offer slightly lower prices for better goods and services. This industrial sized truck also had a pair of IFTA stickers that I had never seen.
The Roswell area has experienced quite a boom in oilfield related services and I am betting it was easily worth it for Elkhorn Construction to incur substantial expenses to pack up and setup shop in south eastern New Mexico. They must be getting paid a pretty penny to absorb nightly Motel Costs and various other, unknown to this writer, expenses to work more than 1000 miles from their home state. I just hope they find their stay pleasant in Alien City. Some friends own a business there and appreciate the out of towners patronizing them and stimulating the tepid economy there.
