Inconsistent Water Bill

I am not talking about the same inconsistent water bills that West Liberty residents had to endure. The bill that you see in the picture has inconsistent language with respect to the due date. Notice the SUBJECT TO CUT OFF language which states that the bill is due and payable now. Additional charges will be assessed if service is disconnected due to non-payment.

The inconsistency is that the due date is 2/25/13, but the bill was received on 2/13/13. The severe termination of service language is probably due to the fact that many poverty level people live in Roswell,NM. So the city of Roswell-Water Department probably puts the subject to cut off on every bill since the incidence of non-payment is high.

The water department also bills for sewage and sanitation. I think this is common for all water bills to charge for these additional services. The sanitation part of the bill was $12.75 which apparently pays for the trash receptacle behind house in the alley and the fancy dump truck that picks up the trash 2 or 3 times per month.

  1. The city of Roswell, New Mexico has raised our water bill rates two or three times in the last year or so. What gives?

  2. Thanks Art Torrez, Roswell utility director, for protecting us from E. Coli and fecal contamination in our water supply.

Artesia is now under a boil water order as E. Coli was reported in water supply of FLETC in a town where water is NOT chlorinated.

Art stated 50 water samples per month uniformly taken around city keep city officials on top of our water quality.

Art knowledgeably asserts contaminants form in water systems NOT aquifers. This is a big deal since alien city and roswell share same aquifer.
